The Gardens are a fantastic way to expose kids to plants, flowers and the natural world. My three year old has become increasingly aware of flowers this spring and was excited to see the daffodils and tulips. There is a "nest" area that is great for kids to run around (and tire them out!). The Cherry Blossom Esplanade is awesome, though it is worth noting that you can't spread a blanket. It's a great green space for kids to run amok. At Halloween, they have a great festival with music and costumes. The one year we were able to go, my son and his friends had a blast. We almost always run into friends when we go to the Gardens. They have a cafe, too, though it is expensive and the lines are often long.

The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens is my absolute favorite place to go with my kids. I'm a native new yorker and I have my own fond memories of being a kid and exploring the fauna and enjoying the peacefulness of the nature - so rare in the city! My kids only wish we could leave the city and live in the country. The Botanical Gardens is as good as we can get without actually leaving. Check the schedule for special kid activities.
