About this business:

Ages: 4-12
Children???s classes are separated by age groups: 4-5 year olds and 6-12 year olds. All age groups can benefit from learning Aikido. Children are avid learners of new material. They enjoy challenging their young minds and bodies and take special pride in mastering new skills. In addition, they require regular exercise to stay fit both physically and mentally.nstruction is initially centered around physical exercises designed to improve motor skills and increase physical coordination. The children are then taught how to fall without hurting themselves. After the students are comfortable with falling, we introduce basic martial arts principles of movement. In conjunction with these principles, we instruct them in the techniques of Aikido. Cooperation and teamwork are stressed as the more accomplished children assist the newer students in developing their skills.Students must commit to attend practice at least once a week.Kids ages seven to 12 are eligible for the Aikikai???s Aikido Kids Camp summer program, where they can learn the basics of aikido, a non-competitive martial art also called ???the way of harmony.??? Midday Japanese cultural activities include haiku, origami, ink brush painting, and learning to draw manga superheroes! Field trips include trips to the Metropolitan Museum, Brooklyn Museum, and Brooklyn Botanic Garden as well as picnics and sprinklers in a nearby playground.
