LuLu???s has been catering to kids with special needs for six years now, of course it is always best for families with a child with special needs to come in on a weekday.

LuLu's is pretty great. It is both a place for haircuts and a toy shop. For their haircuts, they have DVD players for the kids to watch during the haircut. They have one seat that is in the shape of a car. The hairdressers are all very polite, patient (which is good because they often have to be) and understanding (which is good because they often have to be). For my son's first haircut, they made a big deal and kept a lock of his hair for us along with a certificate. They figure out how to manage screaming children (and get their haircut with parental aid). They have little extra toys on hand for the children to play with so they will look down at their hands while the cut happens in the back of the neck. They also have some hair products that we have used for my son's particularly challenging to manage hair. (and we are not a hair product family) They have a train area for kids to play in while they wait (we go early so my son can play even if there isn't a wait) and all kids get a balloon on the way out. The one big drawback is that it can be very noisy with all of the kids in and out and if a kid is having a big meltdown, it can be particularly overwhelming to other sensitive children. But, if you schedule your appointment at a less busy time, you should be all right.
